Red flags keep football talent from Britain

Campaigners warn that the inability to sign young football talent as a result of Nigel Farage's Brexit deters athletes from Britain.

Regulations brought in post-Brexit strictly prohibit UK football clubs from signing overseas players under the age of 18.

Cal Roscow, Executive Director of Marketing at Best for Britain, which campaigns for closer UK-EU ties, said:

“Real Madrid or Bayern Munich can sign Kennet Eichhorn today but Liverpool FC cannot: not because he doesn't want to come, and not because the money isn't there, but because Brexit made Britain the only major footballing nation in Europe that can't sign a 16-year-old European talent.

“While our rivals hoover up the next generation of stars, English clubs are left watching from the sidelines, tied up in red tape of Nigel Farage's making, all too aware that until we fully align with the EU, the UK will continue to lose top talents to other countries.”
